National Bank of Dominica Ltd. (NBD) has it’s origins to March 1978 when it started its operations as National Commercial & Development Bank. In December 2003, the Bank privatized its holdings and became National Bank of Dominica Ltd. NBD earned a reputation of being innovative and product savvy, delivering a wide portfolio of loan and deposit instruments to its customers. It was among the first in the region to offer an International Debit Card on a Visa platform. The bank has 4 branches and 2 agencies with a staff complement of (130) and (13) ATMs at (10) locations across the island. It offers loan syndication through a related company Caribbean Financial Services Corporation (CFSC), a Merchant Bank based in Barbados, investment management services through a wholly owned subsidiary, National Mortgage Finance Company Ltd. (NMFC), a licensed Broker/Dealer on the ECSE. NBD’s mission “To maximize shareholders’ value, provide excellent customer service, and improve the quality of life in the communities we serve and to be the employer of choice” epitomizes the Bank’s continued awareness of the changing environment within which it operates, including the opening of markets through CSME. The Bank has consistently realized a return on capital of at least 20% and is managing assets in excess of 40% of the local banking industry. As one of the leading emerging financial institutions in the OECS, NBD had an asset audited base of US$288 million as at June 2008.
